Before 1983, a few friends who had failed in their repeated attempts to quit drugs came to hear of the Gospel and accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour. With the help of their new-found faith, they were finally able to overcome their addiction.

They started to search high and low for friends who, like them in the past, were still suffering under the bondage of drugs, so that they might share the Gospel with them.

In July 1983, this group of ex-addicts, as an expression of their gratitude for the salvation they had received, stepped out in faith and founded Breakthrough Missions in Changi. This was to be a home for those addicts who needed help in quitting the habit, in restoring their health and in rediscovering the true meaning of life.
